The Perth Mint’s first 2oz silver bullion 'piedfort' coin features a mother and baby koala.
Piedforts take their name from the French words for ‘heavy weight’. This type of extra thick coin was first struck in France during the 12th century.
The Mother and Baby 2018 2oz Silver Bullion Piedfort has the same diameter as our 1oz coin but is double the thickness.
Featuring one of Australia’s favourite native animals, it depicts a mother koala perched on a branch carrying a joey (baby) on her back.
Struck by The Perth Mint from 99.99% pure silver, the coin is issued as Australian legal tender with a maximum mintage of 75,000 pieces.
