2019 Australian Kookaburra bullion coins first to feature Queen’s new effigy

Topics [ Australian Kangaroo silver bullion coins ]

The Australian Kookaburra for 2019 features a striking new design of Australia’s largest kingfisher.

Famous for its cackling laugh, the native bird is pictured standing on a sunken tree branch with the setting sun reflected on a rippling waterway.

First issued in 1990, the Kookaburra is Australia’s longest running silver bullion coin series. Enjoyed for the high standard of its annual artistry, the coin is also a trusted precious metal option for discerning investors.

Meticulously crafted from 99.99% pure silver and issued as Australian legal tender, the 2019-dated releases are available in 1oz, 10oz and 1 kilo options. A maximum of 500,000 1oz coins will be produced, while production of the two large coins will run for no more than 12 months.

New obverse effigy

These Australian Kookaburra coins are also notable for being the first Perth Mint issues to portray Australia’s new portrait of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II.

Showing the Queen wearing the Royal Diamond Diadem, the official effigy was created by Jody Clark, an engraver for the United Kingdom’s Royal Mint.

The sixth image of the Queen to appear on Australian coins since Her Majesty’s accession to the throne in 1952, she faces right in keeping with tradition.

New bullion coins display exotic Australian bird of paradise design

Topics [ Bird of Paradise silver bullion coins gold bullion coins ]

The bird of paradise is famously associated with the island of New Guinea, where its beautiful plumes are used as currency by local tribes and worn as adornments during cultural ceremonies.

A few species also inhabit north eastern areas of Australia, the ‘great southern land’ to which New Guinea was once physically connected.

A remarkable example is Victoria’s riflebird, a species endemic to Queensland’s Atherton Tableland where it lives year-round in the rainforest.

Known as the ‘duwuduwu’ to the indigenous Yidinji people, it was recorded by Scottish naturalist John Macgillivray in 1848 and subsequently named after the reigning UK monarch, Queen Victoria.

In colour, the male bird’s similarity to the uniforms of contemporary British riflemen is the purported reason for its common title. Predominantly velvety black, the plumage includes areas of iridescent greenish blue, purple and bronze which are used to showy effect during its theatrical courtship dance.

This flamboyant display involves a series of initial nodding, weaving and flapping movements. As a dramatic finale, the bird holds its head high while arching its wings skyward in a dramatic appeal for a mate.

Australian Bird of Paradise 1oz Gold and Silver Bullion Coins

The Perth Mint is delighted to showcase an Australian bird of paradise with this stunning representation of Victoria’s riflebird on two superb new Australian bullion coins. Struck from 1oz of 99.99% pure silver and 1oz of 99.99% pure gold, they have maximum mintages of just 50,000 and 5,000 respectively.

With only limited stock available, registered Perth Mint clients are urged to place their orders at www.perthmintbullion.com as soon as possible. Alternatively, please call Customer Services on 1300 201 112, or visit our Bullion Trading Room in person at 310 Hay Street, East Perth.

Australian Swan bullion coins return with highly appealing new design

Topics [ silver bullion coins Australian Swan gold bullion coins ]

Highly prized Australian Swan gold and silver bullion coins are back in 2018 with another superb design – this time portraying a mother and her baby cygnet.

Swans are widespread throughout Australia, although the white feathered species are seldom seen. Cygnus atratus, which breeds mainly in the continent’s southeast and southwest regions, has black plumage except for the white tips of its wings.

These birds are culturally significant in Western Australia. In 1697, Dutch explorer Willem de Vlamingh noted numerous black swans living in the estuary of what he named the 'Swaanerivier'.

In 1829, the British established Perth as the chief settlement in what was then known as the Swan River Colony. Today, the bird’s iconic status is reflected in both our state flag and coat of arms.

Not surprisingly, the swan was also chosen as the emblem of The Perth Mint.

Australian Swan 2018 1oz Gold and Silver Bullion Coins

We’re pleased to announce the second annual release of Australian Swan bullion coins for investors.

Following last year’s extraordinary success, which resulted in the rapid sell out of both 2017 coins, the Mint is anticipating a similar level of buyer interest.

Struck from 1oz of 99.99% pure gold and 1oz of 99.99% pure silver, the 2018 coins feature mintages more in keeping with numismatic issues - just 5,000 gold coins and 25,000 silver will be released worldwide.

As well as valuable precious metal investments, the charm of the mother and baby swan design will ensure these coins are also a pleasure to own.

To avoid disappointment, registered clients should order online at perthmintbullion.com as soon as possible. Enquiries are also welcome at our Bullion Trading Room, open seven days a week at 310 Hay Street, East Perth, or through Customer Services on 1300 201 112 during normal business hours.

Purchase now only by calling Customer Service on 1300 201 112. Due to the popularity of this product, orders from The Perth Mint will be limited to three gold coins and 10 silver coins per person for 48 hours after release.
