High-Flying Coin Press Lands At The Perth Mint
March 31, 2011
PERTH A specially-made Grabener 1,000 tonne coin press was delivered to The Perth Mint this week in unusual fashion.
The huge (and expensive) piece of equipment was craned high into the sky and down to the factory-floor through a temporary opening in the roof.
Captured on video, the spectacle caused a few breathless moments among staff before it glided perfectly into position.
Once commissioned, the new coin press will provide extra production capacity for the Mint’s large silver coins, including the popular 1 kilo Australian Kookaburra, Koala and Lunar releases.
