BULLION BARS AND COINS
The huge buzz surrounding the Lunar Dragon coin program has somewhat clouded the growing demand for some of our other bullion coin series.
Thanks to blogger Bullion Baron for highlighting this in his article Perth Mint 1oz Silver Koala Coin Sales Go Mental.
Picking up on our recently posted sales and mintage update for 2011, Bullion Baron wrote: “One of the biggest shocks when looking through the data was the large increase in sales of 1oz Silver Koala Coins.”
Reflecting the sharp increase in demand for precious metals, investors and collectors purchased a grand total of 910,480 2011-dated 1oz Australian Koalas.
To put this in context, that’s three times more than the previous year’s release, and way more than all other sales in the first four years of issue.
• 2007 1oz Bullion Silver Koala Coin - 137,768
• 2008 1oz Bullion Silver Koala Coin - 84,057
• 2009 1oz Bullion Silver Koala Coin - 336,757
• 2010 1oz Bullion Silver Koala Coin - 233,531
• 2011 1oz Bullion Silver Koala Coin - 910,480
2012 1oz Bullion Silver Koala Coin
The 2012 1oz Koala silver bullion coin has performed strongly to date with very close to 300,000 coins sold since January’s launch.
In April, however, the market for bullion bars and coins quietened considerably so in answer to Bullion Baron’s question, it is difficult to predict whether we’ll hit 1 million 1oz Koala coins this year.
It will of course be interesting to see how the market performs given the belief by some analysts that we’re going to experience a silver price
break-out later this year.
