Mr Mackay-Coghill emigrated from South Africa in 1986 to take up the dual positions of Chief Executive Officer of GoldCorp Australia and Managing Director of the Western Australian Mint. Before that, he had a 15-year career with International Gold Corporation (Intergold), being appointed Chief Executive, Worldwide, in 1979. Whilst at Intergold, Mr Mackay-Coghill was responsible for the introduction of the highly successful Krugerrand to world markets, which created the first global market for bullion coins.  

Mr Mackay-Coghill retired as the inaugural Chief Executive Officer of Gold Corporation on 30 June 2003 after leading the Corporation for 17 years. He held the position of Non-Executive Director of Gold Corporation from 1 July 2003 until 30 June 2009. During this period he was also Chairman of AGR Matthey, a joint venture between Gold Corporation, Johnson Matthey Australia and Newmont and was a Director of the World Gold Council based in London.

It was during his tenure as CEO of Gold Corporation that Mr Mackay-Coghill, in his capacity as Joint Chief Executive Officer of the Sydney 2000 Olympic Coin Programme, planned and managed the Sydney programme which has become the benchmark for all subsequent Olympic coin programmes.

In recognition of his achievements he received the South African Marketing Award of the Year in 1978; the Vreneli-Preis Award for his contribution to Numismatics in 2001; the Australian Institute of Export's Australian Export Hero Award in 2007; and the Juan Antonio Samaranch Medal for his contribution to Olympic coin collecting in 2012.
On 1 July 2015 Mr Mackay-Coghill was appointed Chairman of Gold Corporation.  


Mr Unsworth was appointed to the Board of Gold Corporation, effective 7 September 2015.  Mr Unsworth is a chartered accountant and corporate finance specialist with extensive experience as a public and private Company Director, having served on the Board of Gold Corporation as a Director and then Chairman from 1996 to 2008.  He has previously been a Director of several listed companies including: venture capital company Westintech Innovation Corporation Limited; gold mining company Indian Ocean Resources Limited; gold, zinc, lead and silver mining company Perilya Mines Limited; office products distribution company National 1 Limited, and Kimberley Oil and Gas Limited.

Mr Unsworth’s career has included senior management positions with an international accounting firm in both Perth and Sydney, a number of years with The Stock Exchange of Perth Limited as Chief Executive, and Director of Corporate Finance with a large stockbroking company.  He was appointed one of four Commissioners heading the ‘Commission to Review Public Sector Finances’ in 1993 reviewing and reporting on the finances and activities of the Western Australian Public Sector.

Ms McMath is the Chief Operating Officer at the University of Western Australia (UWA) and is responsible for the University services of Financial Services, Human Resources, Campus Management and Venues Management. Ms McMath previously held the position of Executive Director of Finance and Resources at UWA and prior to that role was Pro Vice-Chancellor (Resource Management) and Chief Financial Officer at Murdoch University.

Prior to joining the higher education sector, Ms McMath had a 23 year career with BHP Billiton (BHP) where she held a range of senior executive roles in finance, strategy, planning, commercial and treasury operations within the minerals, steel and corporate divisions.  Ms McMath was a BHP nominated Director on a number of domestic and international mining infrastructure subsidiary and joint venture Boards.

Ms McMath has held directorships for the past 19 years in the Resources, Infrastructure, Energy, Financial Services, Property, Education, Healthcare and the Arts.

Ms McMath combines her current executive role with non-executive directorships and is on the Board of the Queen Elizabeth II Medical Centre Trust, Perth Convention Bureau and The Perth International Arts Festival.

Mr Barnes was appointed to the position of Under Treasurer in April 2015, after having acted in the role since February 2014. Prior to this, Michael spent more than five years as the Deputy Under Treasurer after holding a number of senior positions across the Department, mainly in the areas of revenue policy, fiscal strategy, and whole-of-government financial management and reporting.

Mr Barnes is the Chair of the Western Australian Treasury Corporation, and chairs both Treasury’s Budget Management and Finance, and Risk and Audit Committees.

Mr Barnes joined Treasury in 1997 after starting his career as a graduate in the Commonwealth Treasury in 1992.

Mr Wharton is Chief Executive Officer of Seven West Media WA (SWM).  Mr Wharton is responsible for all SWM assets in Western Australia – The West Australian, West Regional Publications (23 mastheads), its on-line properties, WA Publishers, Redwave Media (nine regional licence areas) and Channel Seven Perth.

Before that Mr Wharton was Chief Executive Officer of West Australian Newspapers, a position he held from December 2008.

Prior to that, he was Managing Director of Channel Seven Perth Pty Limited for nine years.  During this period Channel Seven Perth dominated its opposition.

Mr Wharton’s career began as a journalist and he worked in every area of newspaper management in Sydney before being appointed Chief Executive Officer of Perth’s Community Newspaper Group in 1995.  In 2013 Mr Wharton became Chairman of Community Newspaper Group. Mr Wharton’s community and business involvement includes membership of the Telethon Trust, Committee for Perth and the Australian Institute of Company Directors and West Coast Eagles Board. He is a Director of the West Coast Eagles Football Club and a former Director and Vice President of the WA Chamber of Commerce and Industry.

Mr Twigger was appointed to the Board of Gold Corporation in January 2016.  Mr Twigger has more than 30 years’ experience in the fields of investment banking and corporate finance and is currently the Managing Director of the corporate advisory and investment banking firm, PCF Capital Group, providing strategic advice to the Australian mining sector with regards to project divestments, finance and partnering.  In addition to overseeing all PCF Capital businesses, he is also actively involved in the Corporate Advisory and Corporate Finance Divisions.

Mr Twigger became a founding principal of the PCF Capital Group in 1999 following the sale of Bankers Trust Australian Limited, where he held the position of Senior Vice President and lead its investment banking activities in Western Australia since his appointment in 1997.

From 1994 to 1997, Mr Twigger held the position of Head of Macquarie Bank Limited in Western Australia after establishing the financial institution’s Bullion and Commodities Division in Perth where he provided project finance and hedging facilities to mining companies across Australia.

Prior to this, he established the gold risk management business at Fincorp Limited, following terms in senior treasury positions held with The Bell Group Limited and Bond International Gold Limited.

For the past seven years, Mr Twigger has also held the position of Managing Director of the web based mine broking business and currently resides on the board as Chairman.  Mr Twigger is also Chairman of Football West Limited, the governing body for soccer in Western Australia.

Mr Hayes was appointed as Chief Executive Officer of Gold Corporation on 1 July 2015. He had been Chief Financial Officer and Deputy CEO since joining the Corporation in March 2003. Mr Hayes was previously the Chief Operating Officer and an Executive Director of AGR Matthey from October 2002 to March 2003 and prior to that he was Director, Finance and Deputy Managing Director of AGR Joint Venture from December 1998 to October 2002. Prior to that, Mr Hayes was Chief Financial Officer and Company Secretary of Golden West Refining Corporation Ltd, an ASX-listed company controlled by N M Rothschild & Sons Ltd, which, in December 1998, merged with Gold Corporation’s refining and jewellery manufacturing business to become the AGR Joint Venture.

Mr Hayes emigrated to Australia from Zimbabwe in 1987 and held a number of management roles with Boral Ltd prior to joining Golden West.

Mr Hayes is currently the Chairman of the Gold Industry Group, a Director of Interchange Incorporated, and also sits on the Board of Governors of Wesley College.
